Dear Sun Spots: I’m an avid skier, and I recently bought a season pass to Sunday River and Shawnee Peak. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find anyone to carpool or ski with from Auburn. Are there any ski clubs in the Auburn area? – Jaric Fontaine, Auburn.

Answer:
Consider contacting: Auburn Nordic Ski Association, 200 Lost Valley Road, Auburn, ME 04210 or via their Web site at http://auburnnordic.org. You might also want to chat with Jim Wilkins, who handles memberships, at 786-3211. Wilkins is very excited about the trails and says the organization does all the grooming. They’ve got 10 kilometers of trails that they’ve built over the past five years. They are groomed for classic skiing and skate skiing.

Another option is Downeast Ski Club, P.O. Box 1131 Portland, ME 04104 or via e-mail at [email protected].

In addition, you might also consider contacting the New Valley Ski Club which is looking for new members for the ’08 season. Perhaps they have some Auburn members that you might be able to commute with. Contact Colleen at 743-8378 for more information.

Dear Sun Spots: Last month we asked column readers to contribute their unused turkey points from Shaw’s Supermarket to the Trinity Jubilee Center in Lewiston. As a follow-up, we thought they might appreciate knowing that their generous contributions helped purchase 14 baskets of food for the hungry this Thanksgiving!

To everyone who donated points to the center, and to the folks at Shaw’s who honored them, we send our heartfelt thanks. – Friends of Trinity, No Town.

Way to go readers! How wonderful for those families too.

Dear Sun Spots: For the widow looking to renew her military ID: She can also go to Camp Keyes, in Augusta to have her ID updated. They are very helpful. Good Luck. – J. Shaw, Roxbury.

Dear Sun Spots: I have a 2002 Subaru Legacy with a head gasket problem at 86,000 miles. Some cars in this series are covered by Subaru warranty. Others, including mine, are not. I need the customer service address so I may register a complaint and get further information. Thank you. – No Name, No Town.

Dear Sun Spots: When is Vivian Beane of Channel 13 coming back from maternity leave? – No Name, Woodstock.

Answer: Sun Spots corresponded with new mom Vivian who is back at work and happy to offer an update. Benjamin Allen Bean Curren was born at 4 a.m. Aug. 16. He was 7 lbs. 7 oz. He’s now 4 months old and smiling, laughing and having a great time discovering the world. Vivian says she is having a wonderful time being his mom, and can’t wait for each new stage he goes through. So far right now is the best, though she says, because he can’t get anywhere on his own yet, and thinks Vivian is the funniest person in the world!

It sure sounds like mom, dad and baby are having a fun, fun time. Sun Spots wishes the Curren family the very best for the holiday season.
