WATERFORD – A surprise party was held recently for Helen and Franklyn (Sam) Sampson of Waterford, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary at the home of Barbara and Deg Maxfield, who hosted it.
Mrs. Sampson, originally from Oceanside, N.Y., and Mr. Sampson, originally from Harrison, were married in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Nov. 30, 1957.
The U.S. Navy occupied a third of their marriage, Las Vegas the second third, and the rest in Waterford. They have three children, Barbara Peterson of Fredericktown, Mo., Frank Sampson of New Orleans and Roy Sampson of Philadelphia.
They were unable to get time off from their jobs to attend, but expressed their love and happiness for the couple from a distance. They also have three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Simeon and Emily Peterson.
Attending the party were several friends, including Pat and Don Southerland, Ed and Joanne Kalapinski, Marge Smith and, of course, the hosts, Barb and Deg Maxfield. A full sit-down dinner was served which boasted a wonderful roast pork main course with all the trimmings, including plenty of mashed potatoes and gravy.
