BANGOR (AP) – A Prentiss carpenter accused of shooting a 70-year-old friend in the back of the head while high on cocaine has pleaded not guilty to a murder charge.

Joseph Dumas, 48, was arraigned Thursday in Penobscot County Superior Court in the Nov. 8 slaying of Mario “Sonny” Litterio of Prentiss, whose body was found in woods near some camps where Dumas was working.

Dumas is being held without bail at the Penobscot County Jail.

If convicted, he faces 25 years to life.
