LEWISTON – A special City Council workshop scheduled for Thursday could become a model for future public forums.

“But we’ll have to wait and see how many people show up,” said City Councilor Tom Peters. “If we get a lot, we may schedule more of them and then we’ll see what happens.”

Peters announced the forum during his inaugural address. The meeting, a public workshop forum, is scheduled from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the City Council chambers at City Hall.

“We’re just going to be there to listen,” Peters said. “We’re not going to try to solve anything Thursday night. We just want to hear what they think and what they want.”

The forum will be broadcast live on Great Falls TV, channel 7 on Time Warner Cable and channel 1 on Oxford Networks.

Peters said he expects the City Council to schedule more public workshops if Thursday’s forum is well attended.

“If they become really popular, it may make sense to break them down and begin scheduling them in specific wards,” Peter said. “But we’ll have to wait and see what happens.”
