BAR HARBOR (AP) – A genetics professor from Maine is the 2008 recipient of the prestigious Japan Prize in Medical Genetics and Genomics.

The Science and Technology Foundation of Japan announced that Victor Mc Kusick will receive a medal and 50 million yen, about $470,000, at a formal presentation April 23rd in Tokyo.

The 86-year-old McKusick is a professor of medical genetics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

The Parkman native is the twin brother of former Maine Chief Justice Vincent McKusick.

The McKusick-Nathans Institute of Genetic Medicine at Johns Hopkins was named for Victor McKusick in 1999.
