Boys: Clyde Tibbetts,
Oak Hill wrestling
Oak Hill continued its most prolific wrestling season ever by defeating four KVAC rivals — Gardiner, Lawrence, MCI and Winslow — in dual meet competition Saturday. Tibbetts, a junior in the 171-pound bracket, led the rousing afternoon for the Raiders.
Tibbetts needed a total of just over seven minutes to pin his three opponents, dispatching Lance Williams, Ian Fortin and Morgan Pelkey. His one forfeit victory also was worth crucial points in Oak Hill’s closest match of the four, a 42-33 verdict over MCI.
Girls: Chelsea Bernardo,
Poland indoor track and field
In a sport where records are many records have stood longer than current competitors have been alive, Bernardo stands alone among girls’ high jumpers in the Western Maine Conference.
Bernardo, a senior, cleared 5 feet, 3 inches in Poland’s meet Friday at the University of Southern Maine, setting a new winter standard for Class B schools in the WMC.
Only a week earlier, Bernardo matched Greely’s Sarah Lockhart with the best height of the season at five feet, even. Her new benchmark leads all Class B competitors in the state this season and is No. 2 overall.
