1993: Year law banning smoking in public places took effect

1999: Year smoking in restaurants was outlawed

2004: Year ban on smoking in bars and taverns went into effect

2008: Year Legislature will consider ban on smoking in cars when children are present (Bangor passed a similar law in 2007)
