PARIS – The Town of Paris Department of Parks & Recreation has made several announcements concerning its upcoming programs.

The department will be accepting baseball, softball, and T-ball registrations for the 2008 season on Feb. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. and March 2 from 1 to 3 p.m. Sign-ups will be held at the Paris Town Office. Early registrations will are welcomed, and late registrations will not be accepted. The cost is $25 per player or $50 per family.

All interested spring coaches are asked to attend a mandatory meeting March 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Paris Town Office. Coaching applications are available now on the bulletin board outside the Rec Office.

The rec department also will be hosting a children’s entertainment event during February vacation week. Conjuring Carroll will be performing his magic show at the South Paris Fire Station on February 21 at 11:00am. Admission is free.

Oxford Hills Boosters launching indoor soccer

PARIS – The Oxford Hills Athletic Boosters will sponsor an Indoor Soccer Program on Feb. 10, 17 and 24 and March 9 and 16. This program is for all boys and girls in the Oxford Hills in grades 1-6.

Registration forms maybe picked up at the Norway Town Office and given to Norway Parks & Recreation Director Deb Partridge. The fee is $35 per child with a family maximum of $70. Checks should be made out to Oxford Hills Boosters. You may also register at the Norway Armory on Feb. 10 from 2 to 6 p.m.

Flying Moose Classic Nordic races Feb. 17

BETHEL – The Flying Moose Classic, point-to-point Nordic ski races starting at Gould Academy and finishing at the Bethel Inn over 20, 10, and 6-kilometer courses, are scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 17.

Hosted by the Bethel Outing Club, the Flying Moose classical technique citizens’ cross-country ski race takes place on the well-groomed and challenging Gould Academy Pine Hill trail system and the Bethel Inn Nordic Center trails. A mass start will take place at 11 a.m.

Skiers in the 10K and 20K races may enter either the timed or untimed “touring” class. Youth events include a short “lollipop” loop for the very young, and a 6K non-timed course.

Transport for drop bags to be taken to the finish will be available. Sign-in and race-day registration will take place from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Gould Academy Field House on Church Street. Event registration fee for children 14-and-under is $4 for entries received by Feb. 14 and $5 the day of the race. For others, the full entry fee is $25, with a $10 discount for Bethel Outing Club members who register by Feb. 14.

The Bethel Outing Club promotes Nordic skiing as sport and recreation in the greater Bethel and Western Maine area with particular emphasis on youth development Nordic ski programs and family-oriented outings.
