READFIELD – The Maine Gladiators Tier I Peewee hockey team rallied from an early, three-goal deficit to top the Maine Freeze, 6-3, Sunday at Alfond Arena.

It completed an undefeated weekend for the Gladiators, who topped both the Freeze and Southern Maine Breakers on Sunday after a successful stop in the Valley Hockey League at Merrimack College in Massachusetts a day earlier.

Eddie Emerson, Kile Conn, Kyle Lemelin and Shawn Gagnier scored goals in a five-minute span to overcome the Freeze’s fast start. Lemelin and Bryan Hall added insurance goals in the third period.

Zack O’Connor made 17 saves to preserve the victory.

Earlier in the day, Tyler Hutchinson, Lemelin and Emerson scored third-period goals to break open a 4-1 win over the Breakers. Emerson also tallied in the opening period. Spencer Simoneau had 19 saves for the Gladiators, who improved to 5-8-2 in the state league.

Lemelin and Coleman Morency were the scorers Saturday in a 2-2 tie with Methuen. Emerson and Lemelin each earned assists, while Simoneau made 15 stops in net. Lemelin also picked up a goal courtesy of Logan McGuire in the opener as the Gladiators tied Masconomet, 1-1. O’Connor stood tall with 20 saves.

Defensemen Ryan Ratsep and Nathan Tozier played strong hockey for the home team over the weekend along with forwards Evan Gosselin, Brendon Pelletier and Jeremy Williams.

The Gladiators return to the ice today with a non-league game against the Maine Hurricanes at Kents Hill.
