Dear Sun Spots: I am writing to see if there is anyone with a minibus that could help a group of 20 to 25 seniors from Monmouth to go on one or two outings in the summertime. Funds are limited so we cannot afford to rent a bus from a big company.
Also, whatever happened to Paul Harvey, the commentator that used to be on WPOR for years? Is he on a different station at a different time, other than noon? – An interested senior from Monmouth.
Answer: In addition to responses from readers, according to www.paulharvey.com, you can pick up Harvey on: WALZ 95.3 FM in Bangor, WBAE 1490 AM Portland-Auburn, WHOU 100.1 FM in Presque Isle, WQDY 92.7 FM in Bangor or WVAE 1400 AM Portland-Auburn.
Dear Sun Spots: The St. Dom’s class of 1958 is getting ready for its 50th class reunion in June. We would like help in locating our classmate, Janet Reed. If anyone knows where she can be reached, please phone Jacquie at 786-6959. – Jacquie, No Town.
Dear Sun Spots: I love your column.
I am looking for a recipe that appeared at least five years ago, about the ingredients in Taco seasoning envelopes so that you can make your own. I have misplaced mine.
Also, I have a beautiful red chenille sweater that I love expect for one reason. It sheds so much everything ends up red when you wear it. All the fuzz sticks to everything else you are wearing. It has been washed several times but this hasn’t helped. What can I do? – R.L., Monmouth.
Answer: In addition to responses from readers, Sun Spots located the following recipe online at www.cdkitchen.com and hopefully this will work for you.
Taco Seasoning Recipe Ingredients: 6 tsp. chili powder, 5 teaspoons paprika, 4½ teaspoon ground cumin, 3 teaspoons onion powder, 2½ teaspoons garlic powder, 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper. Method: In a storage container with tight-fitting lid, combine all ingredients; mix well. Seal tightly. Store in cool, dry place for up to six months.
Regarding your question about your sweater, Sun Spots encountered the same problem and discovered the chenille was not high quality. When the fuzz wore off she had to throw the sweater out. A good way to determine if your chenille sweater does not shed is to run your fingernail along the material, prior to purchase. If you end up with fuzz on the fingernail, you should not purchase that particular garment. Look for one that doesn’t shed and you’ll be sure to have a long lasting chenille sweater.
Dear Sun Spots: My husband and I also have a gift certificate for Autumn Day Spa from our children. It is for $200. The certificate was purchased Dec. 6. I have been trying to reach the spa by telephone, and my husband went there yesterday and found a sheet covering the entrance windows to the spa.
We are contemplating contacting the attorney general’s office and would like the address. I also have the owner’s name and more.
I’m hoping you can help us. – Joline Lajoie, Lewiston.
Answer: In addition to responses from readers, Sun Spots was in touch with the former owner who called to update column readers. As noted in the Feb. 6 column, owner Crystal Lavoie had to vacate the premises. She notes that the building she leases from another party was foreclosed on. She has every plan to reopen, and you and other interested readers might consider keeping an eye on this column. She expects to update you all once things are up and running again.
