BIDDEFORD (AP) – A 22-year-old Saco woman is charged with armed robbery for allegedly threatening people with a 9-inch butcher’s knife while stealing an undisclosed amount of cash from a Biddeford bank.

Police Chief Roger Beaupre said Ashley Tefry entered a Bangor Savings Bank branch shortly before 9 a.m. Friday. While brandishing the knife, she allegedly overturned copy machines and computers while throwing cash around the bank building and stuffing it into her shirt.

The chief said police tackled Tefry as she ran down Main Street away from the bank.

The woman is being held at the York County Jail and is expected to appear in Biddeford District Court on Tuesday.
