Recently, I received a chain e-mail, which had information of Canadian seal hunting. Seal hunting??? Can it be true? I cannot fathom why anyone in their right mind would want to kill these gentle creatures, with big, deep eyes. There is no reason for this to be going on. Hunters are killing these cute little animals out of pure greed. All they want is to make money off of the seal’s pelt. Before they are killed, some hunters kick them or beat the babies on the head with clubs. A whopping forty percent of seals killed are skinned alive.
Meat, of course, is necessary for survival of humans, and I guess if you lived way up north, seals would be a resource for meat. It’s the same as killing a deer. But it’s not the same. Seals suffer before their death, and it is a drawn-out killing, unlike using a gun. The fact of the matter is, the meat isn’t even used! All that the hunters go for is the pelts.
I don’t understand how these “hunters” can live with themselves. Just seeing a few pictures of this is enough to make my stomach churn. Seals are harmless, beautiful creatures who don’t deserve this. I am not some crazy activist, and I can totally understand eating meat, but the way they are killed is just flat-out wrong. Help save the seals by visiting harpseals.org.
