SANDY RIVER PLANTATION – A special town meeting will be held Thursday to ask voters to authorize transferring money into the winter road and school accounts, Town Clerk Evelyn Wing said.
Both accounts need money transferred from reserves to cover costs until the annual town meeting in June. The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the town office, she said.
Like many towns, the amount needed for winter roads couldn’t be anticipated, she said.
The town wants another $25,000 added to the account to cover the purchase of salt, sand and to pay for any additional plowing needed this winter.
Tuition for the third and fourth quarter at Rangeley Lakes Regional School is the reason for an $80,000 transfer into the school account, she said.
The plantation has 16 students, up from 10, attending the school.
Seven new children have moved into the area, including some renters, and most started school at Rangeley Lakes Regional School at the beginning of the year.
This was also not anticipated in the town’s budget, she said.
