This is in response to the editorial about the “Big Read.” (March 5)

The Lewiston Public Library, with its director, Richard Speer, and the librarians in circulation, reference and cataloging, is one of Lewiston’s greatest assets.

Whenever I call to request a book, I ask circulation if it is available or on order at the library. If the book I request is not immediately available, the librarians find it for me via inter-library loan. I’ve received books on loan from Rumford, South Portland, Falmouth and other places.

I’ve called the reference department many times. I always receive a timely and gracious response to my questions.

I value the library as second only to the Basilica.
