WILTON – Selectmen chose the lowest of two bids for a new pumper/tanker for the Fire Department on Tuesday. The cost is $210,000.
A Homeland Security grant was awarded to the department in February to purchase the new vehicle.
The bid by E-One, headquartered in Ocala, Fla., is subject to review and approval by the town manager and fire chief.
A other bid was from Ferrara Fire Apparatus of Monmouth for $229,220.
Fire Chief Sonny Dunham reported to the board on the amount of mandatory training undertaken by members of the department during this past quarter. A 40-hour hazardous materials course has been completed with half of the staff reaching the technician level, he said.
The department also completed 16 hours of rescue intervention training and an eight-hour class for burning of hazmat material.
In other business, the board discussed reviewing all 51 properties owned by the town after looking at descriptions and maps of five of those properties. The properties were being reviewed to see if the selectmen had any interest in selling some of them.
While material on each property listed valuations completed by Cole-Layer Trumble Co., which did the town’s revaluation, the board voted unanimously to seek a private Realtor’s assessment on three of the properties, including land on Munson Road, a small island off the shore of Wilson Lake and a four-acre lot on Hanslip Road.
The board asked Town Manager Peter Nielsen to prepare similar materials on each of the town’s properties for review.
Nomination papers for two selectmen’s seats and one SAD 9 director are available and must be returned by April 25, Nielsen told the board.
The board will hold a special meeting to work on the budget at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 25.
