SOUTH PORTLAND – Iconic British folk rock legend Richard Thompson will perform at 8 p.m. Friday, April 11, at South Portland High School.

Named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the Top 20 guitarists of all-time and the recent recipient of both an Ivor Novello Award for Songwriting and the 2006 BBC Lifetime Achievement Award, Thompson is one of the world’s most critically acclaimed and prolific songwriters.

His work is admired and has been recorded by such artists as Bonnie Raitt, David Byrne and Elvis Costello. As a teenager, he was a founding member of the 1960s pioneering group Fairport Convention. He has performed more than 20 years as a solo artist and scored Werner Hertzog’s 2005 documentary “Grizzly Man.”

His body of work includes more than 40 albums of lyrical wit anchored by such a singular acoustic and electric guitar delivery that Newsweek recently wrote: “like all genuine art, it satisfies completely.”

Tickets, $35, are available online at MKTIX.com/heptunes; and at all Bull Moose music store locations.
