Katie Blais, 16, of Peru, left, calls out weight increments as Julie Carlow, center, cranks down on the bridge she created with fellow chaperone Cheryl Ellis, right, during the Totally Trades Workshops for Women on Friday at Central Maine Community College in Auburn. The conference provided hands-on workshops for approximately 125 girls from nine high schools related to non-traditional trades. They included bridge building, law enforcement and automotives. The Carlow-Ellis bridge was able to bear 290 pounds, taking the top honor during the morning session. Blais’ bridge, built with Hannah Freeman, took second with 190 pounds. The bridge building session was taught by Lib Jamison of Women Unlimited.
