PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Environmental officials are warning people to stay away from a type of jelly fish that has washed ashore in Barrington.

Staff at the Department of Environmental Management have spotted the cold-water lion’s mane jellyfish in Narragansett Bay for the past month or so. But Wednesday was the first time people reported them washing ashore.

The jelly fish can grow up to a foot wide and inflict a painful sting.
