PORTLAND – WMTW-TV (Channel 8) has been awarded the Region Ten 2008 Edward R. Murrow Award for Continuing News Coverage. The award was announced April 4 in Boston at the annual Radio and Television News Director Association Awards.

The award was earned by News 8 for the coverage of the Patriot’s Day storm of 2007. During a 5-day period from April 16-20, 2007, News 8 provided continuing coverage of the impact and aftermath of the storm and the flooding it caused.

The Region Ten award encompasses small market stations from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.
