LEWISTON – Hunts Hill couldn’t quite catch Capsawn during the Lewiston Recreation Department women’s volleyball regular season. The runners-up rallied when it mattered most, however, sweeping both games from Capsawn in the best-of-three tournament final to capture the league championship.

Capsawn topped DC Electric, 25-18, 25-15, to reach the final, where Hunts Hill pulled out a 25-23, 25-21 victory.

Team members for Hunts Hill are Beth Gallagher, Shannon Stoll, Yvonne DeCory, Beryle Martin, Zip Weeman and Erin Summers.

B-1 Division

LEWISTON – Three teams remain alive in the chase for the Lewiston Rec Volleyball B-1 title after Wednesday’s tournament play.

Strout CPA is the lone undefeated squad in the double-elimination draw at 2-0 following hard-fought wins over Downeast Pension (24-22, 17-21, 21-12) and Maine Commercial Door/Buddy T’s (21-15, 17-21, 22-20).

That represented the only loss for each of the other two surviving teams.

Maine Commercial Door/Buddy T’s defeated Team Air Force (21-18, 21-14), while Downeast eliminated both Air Force (25-24, 18-21, 21-18) and General Electric (24-22, 21-19).

Air Force temporarily stayed alive with a 21-13, 21-4 elimination game triumph over Mountain Road RV.

Rowe Builders and Ducharme Masonry previously were eliminated from the tournament.

Maine Commercial Door/Buddy T’s and Downeast Pension face off to begin the championship round next Wednesday.

The survivor will need to beat Strout twice in order to keep the Accountants from banking the title.
