SABATTUS – A woods fire off West Ridge Road burned about an acre before firefighters got it under control early Saturday evening.
According to fire Chief Robert Scott, a call came into the department about 6:15, about a woods fire near Sutherland Pond. About a half-acre of the privately owned wooded land had burned or was on fire when the department arrived on the scene.
According to Scott, it is not certain how the fire started, but there was evidence of a recent campfire in the area.
Lisbon was called to fill in at Sabattus Central Station.
Sabattus cleared the scene shortly before 9 p.m.
