NEW GLOUCESTER – Voters face 36 articles at their annual town meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in Memorial School.
The total municipal budget of $3,687,568 will be offset by estimated revenues of $1,995,426. The amount to be raised by taxpayers totals $1,016,842.
That amount does not include New Gloucester’s portion of the SAD 15 assessment at $3,765,467.
Town Manager Rosemary Kulow said the municipal budget is $29,901 more than this year.
Selectmen will use $675,300 from an undesignated fund balance to offset the spending requests.
Article 2 seeks approval to raise and spend $447,424 to fund selectmen at $17,450, administration at $273,778, town meetings and elections at $3700 and tax assessment at $73,816, code enforcement at $55,680, legal services at $18,000 and unexpected expanses at $5,000.
In article five, the highway department amount is $605,640, solid waste $212,325 and tree care $3,000.
In article four, the fire department requests approval of $195,626, emergency management $4,000, street lights $,5500 and public safety dispatch $27,100.
Article 21 asks voters to appropriate $60,000 from the undesignated fund balance to cover an overdraft in the public works department due to winter plowing and sanding.
And, the library seeks authorization to spend up to $10,000 from building emergency capital reserves to repair a portion of the library roof.
At least 10 articles ask voters to give selectmen the green light to accept gifts of money, gifts of personal property, access revenue in excess of amounts budgeted and accept grants.
There are seven properties taken by the town for nonpayment of taxes, and voters are asked to approve officials getting rid of them.
Voters will be asked to convey to the New Gloucester Historical Society at no cost land known as the lower corner schoolhouse lot.
Developer McDonald has requested Douglas Drive be accepted as a town way.
