PORTLAND – Peak Performance Multisport will celebrate the achievements of three of the four Maine women runners who took part in the U.S. Women’s Olympic Marathon Trials on in Boston. The talk and celebration will take place at 6 p.m. on May 13 at Peak Performance Multisport in Portland.

Sheri Piers, Emily LeVan and Kristin Barry will talk about their training and the experience of stepping up to the line with the USA’s greatest women runners. The event is free, and the public is welcome.

All four Maine women placed well in the event that featured 123 of the country’s top women marathoners. Piers of Falmouth ran 16th overall with a time of 2:38:46; LeVan of Wiscasset was 67th overall in 2:45:45; and Barry of Scarborough came in 73rd in 2:46:41. The fourth Maine qualifier, Joan Benoit Samuelson, finished 90th in 2:49:08, setting the women’s marathon trial record for her age group. Samuelson is not able to attend.

For runners who are planning to do a marathon, half marathon or any distance race this year, this event is a must-attend event.

Piers, LeVan and Barry will talk about the demands of training for a national caliber event.

They also will talk about the high and low points during training, balancing work and family, the Boston/Cambridge course, the fans and their recovery from such an effort. They will take questions from the audience and are sure to provide inspiration for all who attend.
