NEW GLOUCESTER – David Van Wie, a 20-year resident of New Gloucester, is running as a Democrat for House District 105, which includes Durham, New Gloucester and part of Lisbon.
Strong support in Durham and New Gloucester allowed him to qualify for clean election money before the filing deadline.
“I am very excited by the tremendous support I have received from both Democrats and Republicans in Durham and New Gloucester. Talking with people around town and at the Durham town meeting convinced me that they appreciate my leadership experience and interest in listening to their concerns. I am hearing very strong support for my candidacy in both towns.”
Van Wie is a former director of the Bureau of Land and Water Quality and has years of experience working with legislative committees and citizens, businesses and interest groups. He has more than 25 years of success working on energy and forest products issues.
Van Wie has served the community as a volunteer coach for Little League, youth soccer and middle school hockey. He has been elected to the SAD 15 board, has been president of The Block House Preschool, chairman of the Advisory Board for the Pineland YMCA and a member of several town and state boards.
He lives with his wife, Cheryl Bascomb, and their two teenage children, and works at MACTEC Engineering & Consulting in Portland.
