AUBURN – The St. Dominic Regional High School math team participated in the 32nd annual Maine Association of Math Leagues state meet on April 15 with more than 900 other students throughout the state.

The competition consisted of six individual rounds, two relay rounds and two team rounds.

During individual rounds, each team members works on three questions covering a variety of high school mathematics during a 12-minute interval.

In relay competition the team members divided into two teams, with one member from each side working on an algebra I question, one on an algebra word problem, one on a geometry problem, one on an algebra II question and one on “anything from high school math except calculus.”

Participating members were: seniors, Catherine Joseph, Amanda Mayette and Katherine Mayo; juniors, Michael Girouard, Mary Lewis and Jacob Naum; sophomores, Steven Ulin and Nathan Poulin; and freshmen, Zachary Albert and James Poulin.

St. Dom’s finished 25th out of 92 schools statewide.

James Poulin had the 12th highest score for attending freshmen; Steve Ulin had the 12th highest score for attending sophomores; and Michael Girouard had the seventh highest score for attending juniors.

The team finished third for the season amongst the 22 Class D schools and third for the meet.
