MARLBOROUGH, N.H. (AP) – Police say a Nelson man left the scene of a fiery car crash then reported that his car had been stolen to try to avoid arrest.

Twenty-six-year-old Kenneth Harvey was charged with drunken driving, driving after being deemed a habitual offender, lying to police and conduct after an accident.

Police say he was driving in Marlborough early Friday morning when he lost control of the car on a curve and rolled over. When police and fire crews arrived, they found the car engulfed in flames but empty.

Shortly afterward, Harvey called police to report that the car had been stolen. Under questioning, he admitted that he had been driving the car, and that he and a passenger left the crash site.
