PORTLAND – WMTW-TV (Channel 8) has received the 2008 New England EMMY Award for Outstanding Newscast.

News 8 was recognized as the top newscast for television stations in similar size markets in the New England region, which includes stations from Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont and Rhode Island. The EMMY award is administered by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and is awarded as recognition for excellence in the television industry. The award was presented in Boston.

The award was the second for News 8 in the past two months. In April, News 8 received the Edward R. Murrow Award for continuing coverage of the 2007 Patriots’ Day storm.
