CAMDEN – Continuing efforts to increase financial literacy among Maine youth, 46 Camden National employees worked with 27 local classrooms throughout the state to bring financial literacy lessons and awareness to 1,123 students as part of the American Bankers Association Education Foundation’s 12th annual Teach Children to Save Day.
Held on April 29, the event focused attention on the year-round need for financial education among students in grades kindergarten to 12 to positively affect students’ spending and savings.
Classroom presentations include discussions, games and hands-on activities covering topics such as how to budget, why it is important to save for emergencies and how interest makes money grow.
Participating in program, which is voluntary, Camden National employees made presentations in the following local public and private community schools: Nancy Richard at the Elm Street School in Mechanic Falls; Jodie Caldwell at the Stratton Elementary School; and Dawn Field, Dora Sargent, Sheila Waldeck and Terry Smith at the Rangeley Lakes Regional School.
Cindy Gilmore, Donna Chase and Danika Handrahan hosted the fourth grade from Kingfield Elementary School at the branch; and Robin Melancon-Quimby hosted the sixth grade from Madison Junior High School at the branch.
Classroom materials support curriculum standards established by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the National Council of Teachers of English and the Family and Consumer Sciences.
