ACTON (AP) – A town clerk in Maine has been granted a temporary protection order against a selectman accused of using abusive and foul language.

Acton Town Clerk Jennifer Roux took the action against outgoing Selectman Richard Neal, who was elected in a special election in January to fill the seat of a resigning selectman. He did not run for re-election on Tuesday’s ballot.

In court documents, Roux cited five specific instances when she said Neal was verbally abusive.

A hearing on the order will be held Aug. 7 in Springvale District Court.
