ROXBURY – At Friday night’s board meeting, Roxbury Selectmen Mark Touchette and Deborah DeRoche elected Sue Milligan of Rumford as the town’s animal control officer.

Touchette also updated the handful of residents present about a special town meeting that will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, in the municipal building.

Although it’s on the special town meeting warrant, residents won’t be electing a third selectman to fill a vacancy, because no one took out papers prior to last Tuesday’s deadline, Touchette said.

However, after being asked, he said he would check with the Maine Municipal Association to see if a selectman can be nominated and elected from the floor, but he added that he didn’t think it was possible.

Other warrant items up for discussion and voting include possibly enacting a wind power moratorium, raising $5,000 for the fire department’s budget, and raising $1,000 for the River Valley Growth Council.

The two money issues were inadvertently omitted from the March town meeting warrant.

Regarding the moratorium, Touchette said there will be an informational meeting on the proposal from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at the town office. A variety of speakers will be available to educate residents about wind power and what it means for Roxbury.

Touchette also said that he and DeRoche would put together bid specifications for summer roadwork projects at the board’s next meeting on Thursday, June 26.
