AUBURN – The Auburn Public Library’s newest ongoing program, “Bottles to Books,” will kick off on Monday, June 23, in the library’s parking lot.
The public and library patrons are invited to bring their returnables to the library from noon to 6 p.m. and place them in the Bottles to Books kick-off collection bin, a dump truck provided by the Auburn Public Works Department.
The library will redeem the returnables for money that will be used to buy materials for its collection. DPW personnel will be there to give children tours of the dump truck and answer questions.
Also on hand for the bottle drive will be the DPW’s Recycling Committee with information on recycling and other ways to go green.
Those who visit can register to win prizes, including a set of four Portland Sea Dogs tickets, a specialty cutting and cheese board and polo shirts.
After the bottle drive, parents and children can attend the library’s summer reading kick-off program featuring the Swampdonkeys.
The Bottles to Books program is an ongoing bottle drive to benefit the library’s collections. Those who cannot drop off their bottles at the kick-off can turn them in at any time at one of three Auburn redemption centers: Florian’s Market on Main Street, Twin City Redemption on Spring Street and Roopers on Minot Avenue, and let the redemption centers know they are to benefit the Auburn Public Library.
The library is also looking for organizations and companies that would like to partner with them in collecting returnable bottles. Call the development office at 333-6640, ext. 2024, if an organization or company would be interested in assisting with the program.
