FAIRFIELD – Defending state champion Monmouth Post 204 swept a Zone 2 American Legion baseball doubleheader from Fairfield on Sunday afternoon, 7-1 and 10-0.

Forrest Dwyer pitched a five-inning one-hitter in the nightcap. Ethan Guerette belted three doubles and a single while driving in five runs in a contest shortened by the mercy rule.

Dave Ricker and Justin Denbow each tripled for Monmouth (2-1). Denbow delivered two hits. Ricker and Tim Levesque each had an RBI.

Josh Prue cleared the bases with a seventh-inning double to seal the opener. Pat Norwood included a double among his three hits in support of winning pitcher Travis Harwood. Denbow and Tyler Cobb each clubbed a triple, and Ricker delivered a double. Ben Violette doubled for Fairfield.
