LINCOLN (AP) – A couple from Florida suffered severe burns in an early-morning explosion and fire that destroyed a lakefront cabin in Lincoln.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office said 56-year-old Linda Smith and 51-year-old Rick Pedley were transported to a Lincoln hospital and then airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital with burns on more than 60 percent of their bodies.
Emergency personnel arrived shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday to find the injured couple in the water, where they had jumped to escape the fire.
Smith and Pedley, whose hometowns were not immediately known, were staying at the cabin owned by Pedley’s father.
Investigators said the blaze may have been caused by a gas heater or gas stove.
