OXFORD – John Lizotte got just what he was hoping for Saturday night. The driver from Mechanic Falls had just taken the lead from Ryan Farrar as laps wound down in the Truck division feature as weather conditions began to deteriorate.
Thanks to a heavy mist that was quickly turning into a light steady rain, track officials called the race at lap 17, handing the victory to Lizotte.
Jake Burns had been dogging Farrar since the green flag waved, stayed second when Farrar bobbled off Turn 4 to surrender the lead and hung on for second at the line. Farrar settled for third as the track became too slippery to continue.
The remaining feature events will be made up within the next few weeks, starting with the Oxford Networks Late Models this coming Thursday.
In earlier feature action, Houston picked up the evening’s first checkered flag in a 20-lap tilt for the Senior Tour Auto Racers. Over a dozen vintage modified and full-fendered machines took to the oval, bringing back fond memories of short track racing’s early days. Houston, of Lisbon Falls, drives a nicely-restored Chevrolet Camaro-bodied car.
Oxford celebrates Independence Day with a “Triple 50s” program on Thursday, July 2, with a fireworks show to follow.
