JAY – Police had to use a Taser on a Jay man Saturday night after he became combative, Chief Larry White Sr. said Monday.
Matthew Levesque, 24, was arrested on charges of misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct, White said.
Police responded to a 10:29 p.m. call about a man in the middle of East Jay Road stopping vehicles and demanding the drivers let him use the vehicles, White said.
Officer Mike Mejia was the first on the scene and tried to talk to Levesque, White said.
It became apparent that Levesque was intoxicated and combative, White said. Levesque refused to cooperate and grabbed the officer’s clothing and arms in an attempt to assault him, White said.
Mejia continued to tell Levesque to comply, the chief said, but Levesque continued to challenge the officer.
Mejia was able to break free of Levesque’s hold and Levesque continued to be combative, White said.
The officer used his Taser on Levesque to get him to cooperate. Officer Steve Wilkinson arrived and helped Mejia take Levesque into custody, White said.
Police removed the Taser probes and as department policy requires had Levesque taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington to be checked out, White said. Levesque is responsible for the cost of his medical care, he added.
Levesque was taken to Franklin County jail and was released Sunday after he posted $250 cash bail.
