PORTLAND (AP) – There’s an effort afoot to create vanity license plates to benefit Maine’s cash-strapped Animal Welfare Program.
A group that includes representatives of pet-related businesses and animal shelters is trying to raise $50,000, or $25 apiece from 2,000 motorists who agree to buy the plates. If they succeed, state lawmakers would consider the idea next year.
A prototype of the plate shows a silhouette of a ponytailed girl, a dog and a cat, along with the words, “rescue, raise, love, adopt.”
