Joan Wood, Licensed Massage Therapist

Joan has been a licensed massage therapist since 2006. She believes in on-going education, and is certified in Fibromyalgia massage. Fibromyalgia is a pain like no other – people experience it differently; fatigue, sleep problems, muscle abnormalities, headaches, and many more conditions. FMS over time will be lessened, as the tender points are massaged to lessen the pain. This is not an overnight fix, but with massage, drinking more water, and dietary changes, the FMS person will feel less pain, and live life to its fullest.

Joan is also certified in Myofascial Release, which is like FMS in pain and sleep disturbances, fatigue, and headaches. Myofascial Pain Syndrome has the presence of consistent active trigger points, which have to be released with a myofascial release massage; you will feel the release of the muscle.

Joan also does Reflexology on the hands and feet. This is very relaxing as there are 10 zones that benefit from this method on each side of the body – reflexology releases tension in the body. Swedish Massage is an all-over body massage for relaxation. You are draped at all times with a sheet while Joan does different strokes to relax the muscles. She uses creams for different parts of the body, rose for the face on women, mint for the feet; she also has oils. Joan loves working with older people to help them relax and feel that age doesn’t have to hurt so much.

Gentle Dove is Joan’s Native American name given to her by her father, Silver Fox. She feels blessed to be a massage therapist. She feels her gift to the world is to take one day at a time, and help people to feel good and stay as healthy as possible.

Joan is a Reiki Practitioner, which is a Japanese technique that helps with stress reduction and relaxation and also promotes healing. Reiki is based on the ideal that an unseen “Life Force Energy” flows through us and helps us. This is where the healing comes from. Joan believes in a Higher Power and that is what guides us and helps us. Joan says, “I am only a vessel that the healing flows through. I believe that everyone has a right to believe whatever you want as long as it is for the good of the world around us and every living creature in it.”
