LEWISTON – The Lewiston Youth Advisory Council members for the year were appointed by Mayor Laurent F. Gilbert Sr. at the July 15 Lewiston City Council meeting. Fourteen youths were appointed, with nine returning members and five new members.

Starting its seventh year, the youth council has been an active part of the community since the charter membership first met in September of 2002. The youth council was established by the Lewiston City Council in 2001 to encourage youth civic engagement, to provide youth with an opportunity to experience municipal government and to provide youth with a voice on community and youth areas of interest.

Members will participate in a day of orientation on Friday, Aug. 15, consisting of presentations by municipal staff, interactive exercises and leadership training. Advisers will continue to be Lewiston Community Relations Coordinator Dottie Perham-Whittier and Director of Recreation Maggie Chisholm. Councilor Denis Theriault serves as city council liaison.
