MEXICO – The following cases were handled recently by the Mexico Police Department.

Arrests

• Garald Virgin, 37, of Backkingdom Road, disorderly conduct, at 9:58 p.m. July 5 on Backkingdom Road. He was released from the Mexico Police Department on $600 unsecured bail. He is scheduled to appear in Rumford District Court on Sept. 9.

• Laurie Allen, 19, of Backkingdom Road, disorderly conduct and illegal possession of alcohol by a minor, at 9:58 p.m. July 5 on Backkingdom Road. She was released from the Mexico Police Department on $600 unsecured bail. She is scheduled to appear in Rumford District Court on Sept. 9.

Accidents

Vehicles driven by Joshua L. Kershner, 27, Waterville, and Rose M. Dyke, 58, Dixfield, collided at 3 p.m. July 21 at the intersection of the Peru/Mexico Bridge and River Road. Kershner’s 2004 GMC sport utility vehicle sustained $2,000 damage. Dyke’s 2003 Toyota sedan sustained $2,500 damage.

Vehicles driven by Geraldine L. Richards, 51, Mexico, and Perley C. Childs, 43, Hotel Road, Auburn, collided at 11:15 a.m. July 9 on Highland Terrace. Richards’ 2005 Jeep sport utility vehicle sustained $10,000 damage. Childs’ 2001 Chevrolet pickup was destroyed.

Vehicles driven by Lillian F. Orchard, 58, Pond Street, Westwood, Mass., and James B. Moir, 64, of Hurricane Road, Gorham, collided at 10:17 a.m. July 5 in the Wal-Mart parking lot. Orchard’s 2002 Mazda sedan sustained $2,000 damage. Moir’s 2008 Ford sport utility vehicle sustained $1,000 damage.

Robert E. Hunkins, 74, of Hooksett, N.H., struck and killed a deer at 2:45 p.m. July 4 as he was driving north on Route 17. Hunkins’ 2005 Buick sedan sustained $3,000 damage.

Vehicles driven by Kasey K. Shorey, 23, of Somerset Street, Rumford, and Russell J. Waugh, 24, of Roxbury, collided at 5:30 p.m. on Route 17. Shorey’s 1996 Suzuki sedan sustained $1,000 damage. Waugh’s 2007 Honda motorcycle sustained $1,500 damage.

Burglaries

A Granite Street resident reported a break-in at 5:51 p.m. July 23. A digital camera valued at $160 was taken.

A Howard Street resident reported a break-in at 3:46 p.m. July 23. A checkbook was taken.

A Kimball Avenue resident reported a burglary at 2:25 p.m. July 15. A statue was stolen and about $75 in damage to the front door window resulted.

Thefts

A generator valued at $1,500 was reported taken at 8:40 a.m. July 24 from a Main Street residence.

A Kimball Avenue resident reported the theft of a bicycle, valued at $150, at 8:24 p.m. July 12.

A River Road resident reported the theft of a bicycle valued at $200 at 8:46 a.m. July 11.

Vandalism

The Mountain Valley High School track ‘s shed was reported broken into at 9:24 a.m. July 7. Minor damage was done to the door’s lock.

The window of a laundry business on Main Street was reported broken at 3:35 a.m. July 14. About $500 damage was sustained.

Bleachers at the Mexico Recreation Park were vandalized sometime prior to July 22. About $300 damage occurred.

False report

Sgt. Roy Hodsdon has received five complaints so far from people from the Mexico/ Rumford area who reported on July 22 that someone was calling to tell them they must report to the Mexico Police Department for arrest. He said the impersonator claimed he was a police officer and that charges ranged from burglaries to fish and wildlife violations.

Vehicle recovered

A 2003 or 2004 Ford pickup truck owned by a Roxbury village resident was recovered at 9:30 a.m. July 11. The vehicle had been reported stolen earlier that morning.
