NEWRY – Computer problems delayed mailing the town’s property tax bills.

At the Aug. 4 selectmen’s meeting, officials established a tax rate of $7.36 per $1,000 of property valuation, up from $7.08 last year.

Computer snafus, however, meant that the town’s 3,382 tax bills didn’t immediately get mailed out as usual, town Administrator Loretta Powers said. Instead, most were sent on Friday.

In other business at last week’s board meeting, selectmen OK’d allowing Merrill Hill Subdivision developers to get a $28,320 bond to finish a road allowing them to sell lots, Powers said.

The property is off Monkey Brook Road, which is off Sunday River Road.

“They want to sell the lots before the road is done, but the road is pretty darn close to being done,” she said.
