DIXFIELD – The Countryfolk Music Theatre will close out its ninth season of country music with a Dolly Parton look-alike contest on Labor Day weekend.
“We’re looking for Dolly look-alikes to sign up early or walk-ons during our three-day closing weekend, Aug. 29, 30, 31,” said Larry Bisbee, operator of Countryfolk.
“There will be a cash prize for the best Dolly. Singing a Dolly song will be a plus, but not necessary, to the success of the competition. It’s all in fun, so males and females are invited to participate,” he said.
“We’re constructing a big Dolly meter to register the popular audience vote,” Bisbee noted.
Weekend activities include a Friday night jam from 5 to 9 p.m.; and an open mic from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday followed by country jamboree performers from 4 to 8 p.m. and a dance from 8 to 10 p.m.
Lorenzo and Irma Leblond of Livermore Falls will host a free beef stew supper from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday.
Sunday, proclaimed “Dolly Day,” there will be a potluck meal – bring your favorite dish to share. There will also be a country jamboree from noon to 6 p.m.
Countryfolk is always free to the public and for families.
