ALFRED (AP) – A 50-year-old man charged in the fatal stabbing of a friend in Maine was returned to jail after making his initial court appearance Wednesday.

Richard Dalli of York was not required to enter a plea. He’s charged with murder in the stabbing death of 39-year-old John Wheeler of Wells early Tuesday.

Police say the stabbing followed a party at Dalli’s home.

Dalli worked for a local cleaning company and Wheeler was a carpenter. Investigators say the two men had been friends for 10 years.
