WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) – Adam Farkes threw three touchdown passes – including the game-winner with just under three minutes left to play – to lead Maine to a 21-17 win over Monmouth.
Facing a fourth-and-21 from the Monmouth 23-yard line, Farkes’ pass to the end zone was deflected by a Maine player and then caught by tight end Derek Buttles. The score capped a 12-play, 80-yard drive on which Farkes completed all four of his passes.
On the day, Farkes completed 17-of-27 attempts for 207 yards. His other touchdown passes were a 16-yard strike to Landis Williams just before halftime and a 27-yarder to Jeremy Kelley midway through the third quarter.
Williams had six receptions for 61 yards to lead Maine (1-1), while Jhamal Fluellen had 102 yards on 26 carries.
Jared Turcotte of Lewiston caught two passes for 19 yards.
David Sinisi had touchdown runs of 1 and 33 yards for Monmouth (0-2) and finished with 182 yards on 29 carries. The Hawks other score came on Fred Weingart’s 27-yard field goal late in the first quarter.
Monmouth quarterback Brett Burke completed 10-of-26 passes for 95 yards.
, while John Nalbone had three receptions for 30 yards.
