John McCain and Sarah Palin have offered nothing to solve the multitude of crises facing our great country. Did anyone notice during the entire Republican National Convention, there was not one reference to policy on any front?
Why was that? It is because Republicans have no idea how to win the war on terror, how to stop rising unemployment, how to stop the credit crisis, or how to pursue alternative energy sources to rid us of our dependence on foreign oil.
Let’s look at one issue that affects us all: taxes. Under Obama/Biden, families with household incomes of $39,184, which is the average household income in Androscoggin County according to the IRS, would receive a tax cut of $1,408, while those with incomes of more than $2.9 million would pay $701,885 more in taxes. Is there even a single household in Androscoggin County earning $2.9 million? Now let’s look at the same family and how they would do under the McCain/Palin tax plan: They would receive a significantly smaller tax cut of $319, while those earning more than $2.9 million would see their tax bill decrease by $269,364.
Tax relief for McCain/Palin targets the richest of the rich, while tax relief under Obama/Biden targets the middle and lower classes. If your salary is measured in the millions, then McCain/Palin is your ticket. If you are lower or middle class and live within your means, Obama/Biden is your ticket. The choice could not be any clearer.
