Dear Sun Spots: I would like to know what I can do with thousands of S&H green stamps. If anyone knows please call Cecile at 784-8896. – Cecile, Lewiston.

Answer: Good news! S&H Green Stamps can be redeemed for cash or they can be converted to “greenpoints,” which can be redeemed for many valuable items from the S&H online catalog at www.greenpoints.com.

To redeem your stamps, simply count them and then package them securely for shipment. Include a note with your name, address, phone number as well as the number of stamps enclosed. On the note also please specify if you are redeeming them for cash or converting them to points. They ask that you do not mail loose stamps. If you do not have books, paste the stamps onto an 8½ by 11-inch sheet of paper. Send the package via U.S. Insured Parcel Post for the value of the stamps to: S&H Solutions, ATTN: Green Stamps Processing Department, 1625 South Congress Ave. Suite 200, Delray Beach, FL 33445. They cannot be responsible for the stamps unless they are sent insured. Please retain a copy of your insurance receipt for this reason.

If you are redeeming the stamps for cash, and there is no redemption value specified in your Saver Book, the redemption value is $1.20 per book of 1,200 Green Stamps. One book of Green Stamps is worth 1200 points.

If you are redeeming for greenpoints and want these placed in your existing account, please let them know your current account number. If you do not have an existing account, an online account will be created for you. Please note it can take up to six weeks for the points to post to your account.

Once you see the points in your existing account or are notified your points have posted to your account, you will be able to place orders by one of three methods: online at www.greenpoints.com, which will get you your order in the quickest time; mail your order to S&H Solutions at the address listed above, including a check, money order or credit card information to cover the taxes and shipping & handling; or phone your order in to one of the representatives at 1-800-435-5674.

Sperry & Hutchinson, distributor of S&H Green Stamps, began offering stamps to retailers in 1896. The retail organizations bought the stamps from S&H and gave them as bonuses with every purchase based on the amount you bought. The more you bought the more stamps you got. Eventually you saved up enough stamps to trade them in for merchandise.

Sperry & Hutchinson was sold by the founders’ successors in 1981, and was purchased from a holding firm by a member of the founding Sperry family in 1999. Currently the company operates as S&H Solutions.
