Vietnam wall reunion plans being finalized

LEWISTON – The L&A Veterans Council Inc. and Fortin Group are inviting all volunteers to attend the Dignity Memorial Vietnam Wall reunion ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at Veterans Memorial Park.

Navy Command Master Chief Roger Dumont will serve as Master of Ceremonies. The National Anthem will be sung by Melissa Noel, accompanied by Nel Meservier.

The Brunswick Navy firing party and color guard will post the colors and a pass and review of color guard units will take place.

Taking part will be American Legion Post 171, Harpswell; 153, New Auburn; 135, Sabattus; Franco American War Veterans Post 31; Lewiston Fire Department; Lewiston Police Department; Lewiston High School; Army Military Cadets; and LHS ROTC Cadets.

The Pledge of Allegiance will be recited by the Thomas J. McMahon School students. The Rev. Michael Seavey will offer the invocation.

Welcoming statements will be made by Council Chairman Paul Bernard, Fortin representative Mike Martel, Lewiston Mayor Larry Gilbert and Auburn Mayor John Jenkins. A patriotic selection will be sung by Debbie Poulin, accompanied by Nel Meservier.

Althea Walker, McMahon School principal, will be keynote speaker. The benediction will be given by the Rev. Nathan March and a wreath of enduring memory will be laid at the Vietnam Wall Monument by Roger and Mike Martel. The ceremony will end with “Taps,” played by Roger Renaud.

All volunteers interested in attending the Italian buffet at Espo’s must send the payment of $20 by Thursday, Sept. 18, to Ann Dehetre Arsenault, c/o Fortin Funeral Home, 217 Turner St., Auburn, ME 01240 or call her at 783-8545.
