Family fun coming to Black Mountain

RUMFORD – The Black Mountain Family Fun Festival, featuring outdoor recreation demonstrations, will take place on Saturday, Oct. 4, at the mountain. There will also be 1K and 5K trail races and 25-, 50- or 100-mile bike tours.

Rumford Hospital is sponsoring the annual event to give people in the River Valley a chance to participate in and learn more about outdoor activities.

The festival will begin with a pancake breakfast and the 8 a.m. start of 25-, 50- or 100-mile bike tours. The 1K and 5K trail races will begin at 9 and 9:30 a.m. respectively.

A guided foliage hike up Black Mountain is scheduled for 10 a.m. Lunch is also a contest at the Family Fun Festival with the second annual Chowder Challenge, where local eateries will vie for the “Most Creative” and “Best Chowder” awards. In the afternoon there will be a kids trail bike ride, a biathlon 5K race and a dryland training camp for skiers.
