CARTHAGE – Cape Breton fiddler Wendy MacIsaac and guitarist Patrick Gills will take the stage Thursday, Sept. 25, at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center. A sought-after fiddler, piano player and step dancer, MacIsaac has toured worldwide for the last 10 years with Mary Jane Lamond, Ashley MacIsaac and Beolach, her band, and as a solo performer.

Her recordings include “The Reel Thing,” 1994; “That’s What You Get,” 1996; and her latest album, “Timeline,” 2003. Beolach recorded a self-titled album in 2001.

MacIsaac began performing at age 5 as a stepdancer. At 12, she began fiddle lessons. By 15, she was playing dances all over Cape Breton island and forming the sound that makes her so recognizable today.

In 1995, she began touring with the Cape Breton Summertime Revue and has made the road her second home ever since. She has performed with the Chieftains, Capercaillie and Buddy MacMaster.

As manager and member of the five-piece instrumental group Beolach, MacIsaac is able to take the traditional music of Cape Breton to the rest of the world with a large format and a youthful energy.

Gills, also of Cape Breton, is a member of Beolach.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m. It will be preceded by a jam at 6:15 p.m. when audience members are urged to jam for a few minutes with the artists.

Tickets are $10 at the door. Call 562-4445. Skye Theater is at 2 Highland Drive off Winter Hill Rd and U.S. Route 2. For more information, log on to www.necelticarts.com.
