CARTHAGE – New England Celtic Arts will present one of Europe’s top-rated traditional Irish bands, Cara, Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center. The concert will begin at 7 p.m., with a preshow jam at 6:30 p.m. Audience members are encouraged to bring their instruments and jam for a few minutes with the artists.

Cara is a band rooted in Irish and Scottish traditional music, but with ambitions to create a unique sound. Each of the four musicians has made a name for him or herself both home and abroad.

Making up the band based in Germany are Sandra Gunkel, vocals, piano, flute; Gudrun Walther, vocals, fiddle, viola; Claus Steinort, flutes, whistles, concertina; and Jrgen Treyz, guitars. Joining them as special guest is Rolf Wagels, bodhrn player.

Cara is popular not only for its music. There’s the charming and witty performance of the two front women, singing songs and telling tales of jealous lovers, daring young women, water spirits and other curiosities – and playing rousing jigs and reels.

Skye Theater is at 2 Highland Drive off Winter Hill Road and U.S. Route. 2. Tickets are $10 at the door. Call 562-4445. For more information, visit www.necelticarts.com.
