WILTON – In addition to their regularly scheduled children’s story times, Wilton Free Public Library will offer interpreted story times through its Hands On PAH! program, which is dedicated to meeting the needs of the deaf and hard of hearing children, adults and their families in western Maine.
Interpreted story times will be at the library from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. the first Saturday of each month. Deaf and hearing children and their families will have stories that are deaf-centered, and children will have the opportunity to learn about deaf culture, American Sign Language and participate in an arts and crafts activity.
The first interpreted story time this fall will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, with Lori Lewis interpreting the story “Moses Goes to a Concert” by Isaac Millman.
The story explains how deaf children can enjoy going to an orchestra performance and discusses the work of real-life deaf percussionist Marjorie Elwyn.
The next interpreted story time will be on Saturday, Nov. 1.
